Petrified
Forest: Fossilised tree
1500 hectares of petrified plant life comes under the Protected
Monuments of Nature in the Petrified Forest. Tourists flock to
the natural monuments that are simply prehistoric fossils of trees
from the Caenophytic era. They are formed when the pyroclastic
clouds of erupting volcanoes in the region, cover the vegetation
in volcanic ash. Silicon dioxide from the lava mixes with the
ash and petrification then begins.
