Heraion:
Beach
Originally excavated in 1879 Heraion Temple is one of the most
important of the sanctuaries dedicated to the goddess Hera. The
statue of "Hera" of Cheramyes, was excavated from this
site and is so precious that it is now exhibited in the Louvre.
The site is still being excavated, although has been postponed
twice by both world wars. The most important monuments of the
site are the temple of Hera, the Great Altar, the Sacred Road,
Hecatompedon I and II, and the "South Building".
