Nea Kameni:
Main crater - top view.
At the centre of the Santorini caldera
is the small volcanic island of Nea Kameni (Young Burnt Island)
which formed around 425 years ago, although some of the lava rock
is less than 50 years old. Hot springs form around the edges of
the volcano that are rich sources of reduced iron and manganese,
and tourist boats visit the volcano on a daily basis that can
be caught from Fira Town, Athinios Port, and Oia.
